Spirit Sweep GSAC Foe to Continue Strong Start to the Season

Surprise, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team had a statement win this afternoon, with a 3-0 sweep of Embry-Riddle (OVR 6-6, GSAC 0-1) to open conference play. The win puts the Spirit at 6-1 on the year and they are now 1-0 in GSAC play.

  • Set 1 (25-13): OUAZ set the tone early as they controlled the set throughout, starting the set with a 6-0 run, and then finishing on an 8-0 run to clinch the set. Jessica Pearce and Jenna Sarff led the way for the Spirit with four kills each, followed by Hannah Allman with three and Lauren Wamsley with two. Amey Rainaud closed out the set with back-to-back service aces.
  • Set 2 (25-19): The Spirit trailed 10-8 starting the second set but then went on an 8-0 run and never looked back. The Spirit outscored the Eagles 17-9 to finish the set two win. Gloria Moye led the charge with six kills, followed by Wamsley with four. Kaiden Raif also added two service aces in the winning effort.
  • Set 3 (25-15): The Spirit continued their strong day, going on multiple runs to clinch the match with a 3-0 sweep. Wamsley led the way with four kills including the match point, followed by Allman who added three more kills to her total. Rainaud also contributed two more service aces in the winning effort.

OUAZ returns to Faith Arena for more GSAC play on Friday, September 12 at 5 p.m. (MST) against Hope International. The Spirit will then host the Life Pacific on Saturday, September 13, at 1 p.m. (MST).
