BUTTE, Mont. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the Big Sky Challenge on Saturday by splitting its two matches. The Spirit dropped their first contest of the day to Carroll (Mont.) 3-1 before earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory over MSU-Northern to close out the weekend. OUAZ leaves Butte with a 2-1 record to start the 2025 season.
Carroll (Mont.) 3, OUAZ 1
The Spirit opened the day with a competitive four-set battle against Carroll but were unable to extend the match.
- Set 1 (26-28): OUAZ traded points with Carroll throughout, led by five kills from Lauren Wamsley and three each from Charli Cook and Jessica Pearce, before falling just short in extra points.
- Set 2 (14-25): Carroll controlled the second frame, limiting OUAZ's offense despite three more kills from Wamsley.
- Set 3 (25-23): The Spirit responded with a close win in the third, as Wamsley powered the offense with seven kills and Keira Adrian added four.
- Set 4 (17-25): Carroll secured the match in the fourth despite late pushes from Adrian, who had four kills and an ace, and service aces from Tiana Fisher and Amey Rainaud.

OUAZ 3, MSU-Northern 2
OUAZ closed the day with a back-and-forth five-set win over MSU-Northern, pulling away in the deciding set to secure the victory.
- Set 1 (25-19): The Spirit finished on a 4-0 run to take the opening frame, led by five kills from Wamsley and four from Pearce.
- Set 2 (11-25): MSU-Northern evened the match with a dominant second set. Gloria Moye led OUAZ with two kills.
- Set 3 (25-18): OUAZ regained the lead behind four kills from Katie Janzen, while Adrian and Pearce each added three. Kaiden Raif also tallied a service ace.
- Set 4 (19-25): The Skylights forced a fifth set despite three kills each from Wamsley and Moye. Raif added her second ace of the match.
- Set 5 (15-9): OUAZ closed strong, outscoring MSU-Northern 13-7 down the stretch. Janzen led with three kills, while Wamsley and Pearce added two apiece. Wamsley also delivered a service ace in the clinching frame.

OUAZ returns to Faith Arena for its home opener on Wednesday, August 27 at 6 p.m. (MST) against Westcliff. The Spirit will then host the 2025 OUAZ Invitational on Friday, August 29, with matches scheduled against Simpson (Calif.) and Haskell.
