Surprise, Ariz.- OUAZ put on a show offensively as they defeated Nelson Arizona (7-25) 14-0 in a seven inning mercy rule, boosting their winning streak to five games. They are now 26-16 overall on the season and will head into their final two series of GSAC play with a 9-7 conference record.
Offensively, the Spirit offense was firing on all cylinders as they scored 14 runs on eight hits. The key to the Spirit's strong offensive performance was the free passes as they drew seven walks and also had a program record of seven batters that earned a base via the hit by pitch. Dane Fraser was the top offensive performer as he went 2/2 with two doubles, a run scored, and two RBIs. Joey Winters also added to his RBI total, going 1/3 with a run scored, and two RBIs.
On the mound, it was a Johnny Wholestaff game as the Spirit would use seven pitchers to go through the game. Liam Kiffer, Ethan Hatch, Josiah Dominguez (Win), Peyton Little, Bo Garza, Brayden Marcum, and Tyler Bare each put up a scoreless frame to get the Spirit the shutout.
It is back to conference play for the Spirit as they head on the road to face Park Gilbert (13-25 OVR, 2-14 GSAC) for the first time since they have joined the GSAC. They will play two doubleheaders on Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th, with game times being at 11AM and 2:30PM (MST) on both days. Games will be played at the Tempe Diablo Baseball Complex.
