OUAZ Takes Both Games of Doubleheader to Earn Series Sweep Over ERAU

Surprise, Ariz.- OUAZ finds a way to sweep the doubleheader and the series against Embry-Riddle University, improving their record to 25-15 and picking up more GSAC conference wins.

Game one ended by a score of 6-3 in a tight knit game that went OUAZ's way.

OUAZ jumped out to an early lead with 3 runs in the first inning. Logan Meyer tripled in Joey Winters to score the first run. Nicholas Lustig singled in another run soon after and then Nano Perez recorded an RBI. The Spirit added another 2 runs in the fifth inning. Owen Prendergast brought in both runs on a 2 RBI single. Luke Hyzdu would score on a passed ball to bring in the last run of the game for OUAZ. The Spirit offense managed 11 hits and 6 walks as a unit in this one.

Gavin Burns got things started on the bump and went ballistic. Burns tossed 7 innings of 2 run baseball earning himself a win and a quality start. Nate Naccarato threw the last 2 innings allowing 1 run and closing things out.

Game two was won by a score of 5-4 in a thrilling win on senior night.

Owen Prendergast got things going in the second inning with an RBI single to center field, scoring Dante Leach. Joey Winters roped an RBI double in the third to bring in another run for OUAZ. Zach Valencia kept things going with a deep fly ball that was dropped which would eventually score Gabe DeJesus to add to the lead. Embry-Riddle battled back but the Spirit were able to execute a trick play to steal a run in the fifth inning, scoring Nicholas Lustig on the play. Dante Leach had himself a day and hit an absolute missile for a solo homerun in the fifth inning, which would be the winning run.

Zach Hangas got the start going 4.1 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. Eddie Torres tossed 0.2 shutout innings and Brandon Enders came on for the final 1.2 innings of the game, not allowing a run.

OUAZ's next matchup will be against Nelson University (AZ) on April 7th. First pitch will be at 3PM MST on Rangers Field 3.
