Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader in Convincing Fashion to Secure Series Win Over Park-Gilbert

Tempe, Ariz.- OUAZ brings home two statement wins in dominant fashion to take the series over Park Gilbert University. The Spirit now own a record of 29-16 overall and 12-8 in conference.

Game one was a blowout 15-4 win to kick off the day on the right note.

The offense ignited for a five run first inning. Dante Leach led the way with a 2 RBI double to bring in the first two runs. Owen Prendergast worked a good at bat to bring in another run on a walk. Gabe DeJesus would then single to left field to bring in another two runs. Gabe DeJesus stayed hot in the third inning with an RBI double to score Owen Prendergast. Matthew Carter would also record a sacrifice fly in the third inning. The fourth inning saw four more Spirit base runners cross home plate. Joel Esparza was hit by a pitch for the first RBI. Owen Prendergast followed up with a 2 RBI single. The inning was capped off by a Gabe DeJesus RBI groundout. Luke Hyzdu would score on a Park Gilbert error in the sixth inning to add another run. OUAZ added three more runs in the ninth inning. Matthew Carter single in a run and then scored on a Park Gilbert error. Joel Esparza brought in the last run of the game with an RBI single.

OUAZ pitching did a great job in game one at limiting damage. Gavin Burns drew the start and went 5.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs and working around 10 hits. Mackenzie Salmon finished off the last out of the sixth inning. The Spirit called upon Josiah Dominguez to finish off the last 3 innings and he delivered, allowing 0 earned runs while striking out 1.

Game two showcased another great offensive outburst, ending by a score of 18-2.

Nano Perez brought in the first run of the game on an RBI single in the first inning. Matthew Carter brought in another run in the second inning on an RBI single and then Zeke Esparza would steal home. Joey Winters brought in a run in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout. Nano Perez would follow up with a 2 RBI double. The fifth inning saw 6 more Spirit runs score. Owen Prendergast roped an RBI single and then Zach Valencia would single in another 2 runs. Nano Perez brought in a run on a fielder's choice and right after Logan Meyer and Liam Padden would add two more runs on RBIs of their own. OUAZ added 6 more runs in the seventh inning for a run rule victory. Dane Fraser singled to left to bring in Matthew Carter. Owen Prendergast was hit by a pitch and then Zeke Esparza walked to bring in two more runs. Christian Powell hit a sizzling RBI single to score Liam Padden which was followed by Zach Valencia and Luke Hyzdu RBIs.

Zach Hangas held down the pitching duties in game two. Hangas went all 7 innings and only allowed 2 earned runs, earning himself a win and a quality start.

The Spirit will match up with their rivals next in a doubleheader against ACU on April 22nd. First pitch of game one will be at 1PM MST at Surprise Stadium.
