OUAZ Falls in Doubleheader Against Park-Gilbert

Surprise, Ariz.- OUAZ gets swept in their doubleheader today against Park Gilbert. Their record is now at 24-16 on the season and they sit at 4-10 in conference play.

Game one ended by a score of 11-5 in favor of Park Gilbert.

The Spirit got on the board in the first inning on a Mia Casadei RBI single. OUAZ was held scoreless until the seventh inning after that. Mia Casadei recorded an RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Savannah Sutton knocked in another two runs on double to left center field. Nayeli Inzunza put the ball in play and scored Alexis Jimenez on a Park Gilbert error.

The pitching got roughed up in this one. Alexis Ayersman went 4.1 innings and gave up 4 earned runs. Stephanie Cortazar then went 2.1 innings and surrendered another 4 earned runs.

OUAZ dropped game two in a close manner by a score of 4-3.

Isabella Rodriguez brought in a run on an RBI double in the fifth inning. Mia Casadei would bring in another run on a sacrifice fly. Isabella Rodriguez would then score on a Park Gilbert error.

Stephanie Cortazar took care of the pitching for OUAZ. Cortazar went all 7 innings only giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 4. A great performance despite the loss.

OUAZ will look to bounce back and split the series tomorrow with another doubleheader against Park Gilbert. First pitch of game one will be at 12PM MST at Willow Canyon High School Softball Field. Tomorrow is also Senior Day for the Spirit as festivities will begin at 11:30 AM.
