Spirit Spilt Doubleheader in First Day of Tucson Invitational

Tucson, Ariz.- The Spirit split the doubleheader for their first day of the Tucson Invitational. The split puts them at 16-4 on the season. 

OUAZ softball took the loss in the first game of their doubleheader against Saint Francis by a score of 3-2.

The Spirit managed 6 hits and 2 walks on offense against Saint Francis pitching. Nobody recorded a multi hit effort but Mia Casadei and Serena Shine both had doubles. Alexis Jimenez recorded the only RBI of the game for OUAZ.

Alexis Ayersman took care of all the pitching in this one. Ayersman went all 7 innings only giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs putting up another stellar outing even in a loss.

The second game of the doubleheader ended in an 8-6 win for the Spirit.

The offense had a great outing posting 13 hits and 5 walks on the day against Dickinson. Serena Shine had 3 knocks on the day with 3 RBIs and Savannah Sutton had herself a day going a perfect 3/3 with another 4 RBIs. Savannah Sutton recorded the only extra base hit for the Spirit with a double.

Stephanie Cortazar started this one for the Spirit. Cortazar only gave up 1 earned run in her outing but was hurt by some OUAZ mishandling on defense. Alexis Ayersman went in for the last 1.2 innings and shut down Dickinson to lock down a win for OUAZ.

The Spirit will look to use their momentum from game 2 heading into their next doubleheader on March 11th. Game 1 will take place at 1:30PM MST at Lincoln Park.
