OUAZ Softball Sweeps Doubleheader in Final Day of TIG

Tucson, Ariz.- OUAZ Softball sweeps their doubleheader today improving their record to a steady 18-4 as they look towards conference play within the GSAC.

The Spirit took home game one by a score of 8-3 in game one against Maryville State. Elyse Moreno got the scoring started by stealing home in the first. Savannah Sutton quickly backed that up with an RBI single. Mia Casadei would hit an RBI double in the third inning to add another run. In the fourth inning, Alexis Jimenez would get an RBI on a bases loaded walk. In the sixth inning, Savannah Sutton, Isabella Rodriguez, Mia Casadei and Kaylee Ramirez all had RBIs to leave the Spirits total at 8. The offense put up 12 hits and 6 walks in this one, another great effort.

The mound was commanded by Stephanie Cortazar to get things started. Cortazar went 4.2 innings only allowing 3 earned runs and eventually earning the win. Alexis Ayersman came on to finish things off and tossed 2.1 shutout innings to solidify another win for OUAZ.

The second game went just as well for the Spirit, ending in an 11-3 win.

OUAZ's offense got going in the second inning on an Alexis Jimenez RBI triple. Mia Casadei would then double to bring home Jimenez and soon after Kaylee Ramirez would single up the middle to bring in Casadei. Savannah Sutton brought home another run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning. OUAZ tallied 4 in the fifth inning and Savannah Sutton got things going again with an RBI single. Serena Shine would score on a wild pitch and then Kaylee Ramirez would double to score another 2 runs. Karlene Chavarria added the last run of the game in the sixth with an RBI knock. The offense tallied 11 hits and 2 walks in this one.

Leila Elias started for OUAZ on the mound and went 2 innings giving up 2 runs. Alexis Ayersman came in once again to lock down another win with 4 innings of 1 run ball.

The Spirit will look forward to conference play as they match up against Benedictine University in a doubleheader on March 14th. The games will take place at Mesa High School and first pitch of game one will be at 1PM MST.
