Spirit Sweep Doubleheader Against Grace U (CA)

Lake Forest, Calif.- OUAZ sweeps the doubleheader against Grace University (CA.). The Spirit improved their record to 12-2 on the season and have now won 9 games in a row.

OUAZ got things started in the first game on an Isabella Rodriguez RBI single in the first. This would soon be followed by a 2 RBI double by Alexis Jimenez. OUAZ would tack on another 5 runs in the second. Isabella Rodriguez, Savannah Sutton, Alexis Jimenez, and Mia Casadei all recorded RBIs in the second inning outburst. The third inning saw another 3 runs cross the plate for OUAZ. Savannah Sutton knocked in a run on a double to left field. Alexis Jimenez then laced a single out to center to score another which would be followed by a Mia Casadei RBI double to cap off the third inning for OUAZ. The Spirit scored another 4 runs in the fourth inning and then 2 in the fifth, later winning via run rule. Isabella Rodriguez had an RBI single to right in the fourth inning. Sophie Jackson came in to pinch hit and logged a 2 RBI single to plate another pair of runs for the Spirit. Elizabeth Luna would also come off the bench and produce another RBI knock. In a game that saw the Spirit score 18 runs, they produced 23 hits and 2 walks as a team while also stealing 8 bases.

The OUAZ pitching staff was more than solid enough to net another win. Stephanie Cortazar started and went 4 innings only giving up 1 earned run while striking out 4. Cortazar would earn her fifth win of the season. Leila Elias would come in and close things out with an inning of her own in the fifth.

The second game went just about as well as the first for OUAZ. The Spirit would pick up their second win of the day in dominant fashion by a score of 10-2.

Savannah Sutton got things started for the Spirit on an RBI via an error in the first. Isabella Rodriguez would score on a double steal by OUAZ. Savannah Sutton strayed hot in the third, whacking a solo home run to left to improve OUAZ's lead. Serena Shine got things going in the fourth inning with a single up the middle that would score Kaylee Ramirez. Isabella Rodriguez would record an RBI single of her own and then Savannah Sutton continued her incredible season with her second home run of the day, smacking a 2-run shot that scored Isabella Rodriguez. Mia Casadei and Karlene Chavarria both recorded RBI's in the sixth inning for OUAZ. The Spirit's offense amounted to 11 hits and 6 walks in yet another great effort.

Alexis Ayersman took care of things on the bump for the entirety of this one. Ayersman earned her sixth win of the year (6-0) and recorded 9 strikeouts while only allowing 2 earned runs.

The Spirit will look to continue their impressive work on March 1st against Westcliff University (CA.) in a doubleheader. First pitch of the first game will be at 1PM MST at Fullerton College JC.
