Spirit Use Big Offensive Day to Boost Winning Streak to Eleven Games

Fullerton, Calif.- The Spirit sweep yet another doubleheader, this time against Westcliff (CA.). OUAZ's record is now 14-2 on the season and their win streak improves to 11 games.

The first game for OUAZ got started in the early going as the OUAZ offense put up 3 runs in the first inning. Alexis Jimenez roped an RBI single to get things going which scored Serena Shine. Mia Casadei took advantage of an error made by the Westcliff defense notching another RBI for the Spirit. OUAZ scored another pair of runs in the second, coming in the form of an RBI triple from Elysa Moreno and another RBI from a Westcliff error. In the third inning, OUAZ continued to barrage Westcliff with runs by adding another pair. Nayeli Inzunza knocked in a run on a hit by pitch and shortly after Serena Shine did the same thing. The Spirit added yet another 3 runs in the fourth inning. Mia Casadei smashed an RBI single up the middle knocking in 1 run and then Alana Gutierrez added another 2 runs on a pinch hit RBI single, continuing the great work off the bench for OUAZ. The Spirit took what they were given in this one, scoring in all fashions and logging 10 hits and 5 walks as a unit.

The pitching for OUAZ was solid. Stephanie Cortazar went 6.2 innings only allowing 4 earned runs and striking out 4. Cortazar continues her brilliant work on the bump this season. Alexis Ayersman came in for the last out to finish off Westcliff for an OUAZ winner.

The second game continued to prove just how lethal the OUAZ offense can be as they scored another 11 runs in an 11-7 victory.

Savannah Sutton got the scoring started in the first inning with an RBI groundout scoring Elysa Moreno. Alexis Jimenez would then single to left field to plate the second and final run of the first inning for OUAZ. Another two runs were added by Spirit hitters in the second as Isabella Rodriguez would single to right scoring Izabella Suto. Savannah Sutton would knock in another run on a walk. Mia Casadei took matters into her own hands in the third inning, launching a solo homer to add to OUAZ's lead. The Spirit blew the game open in the fourth inning by scoring 5 runs. Isabella Rodriguez singled through the left side scoring Elysa Moreno. Alana Gutierrez came in to pinch hit and demolished a grand slam out to left field to cap off a huge inning for OUAZ and highlight the win. Serena Shine would notch another RBI in the seventh inning on an RBI sacrifice bunt. The OUAZ offense recorded 8 hits and 5 walks in another winner.

The pitching for OUAZ started with Alexis Ayersman who went 3 innings while giving up 5 earned runs. Leila Elias came in on relief and showed out, going 4 innings and only giving up 1 earned run. Elias gave the Spirit much needed relief after a shaky start.

OUAZ will look to press on with their impressive win streak heading into their next doubleheader against Dakota Wesleyan on March 6th. First pitch of game one will be at 5PM MST at Canyon View High School.
