Spirit Get Third Sweep of the Season in Slugfest Against Nelson (AZ)

Surprise, Ariz.- OUAZ earned their third sweep of the season against Nelson University (AZ), winning the third game of the series by a score of 15-12 in a shootout on offense.

OUAZ went down early against Nelson but chipped away at a 2-0 deficit in the first with a run of their own. This came on a Joey Winters RBI single that scored the first run of the game for OUAZ. The Spirit would host a run parade in the third inning lighting up the scoreboard with an 8-spot to break the game wide open. OUAZ was gifted runs by a poor inning from Nelson University pitching and defense but was also aided by an Owen Prendergast RBI double. Nelson put up 4 more runs in the fifth to make it a ballgame again. However, the Spirit were able to answer with 1 run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth. Ethan Hatch recorded a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, Logan Meyer had an RBI in the seventh, and Dante Leach had a sacrifice fly in the eighth. The Spirit used small ball in a big way to win tonight's game. As a team they recorded 8 hits and 11 walks and also took advantage of some errors made by Nelson University.

The pitching for OUAZ did enough to scratch off another win. Micah Del Rio started the game and tossed 4 innings allowing only 2 earned runs and earning his fourth win of the season (4-0). The bullpen wasn't perfect today but Nate Naccarato went 1.1 innings not allowing an earned run which aided the Spirits win quite a bit. Ryan Bell tossed 0.2 innings to bridge the gap to get to Zach Hangas who finished off the last two innings only allowing 1 run.

OUAZ now sits at a record of 13-1 and they look towards their trip to Georgia. The first game on the road will take place against #6 Reinhardt University. A true test for a well performing OUAZ team. The game will take place on February 20th, 10AM (MST), at Ken White Field.
