Spirit's 8th Inning Rally Lifts Them Past Nelson Arizona

Surprise, Ariz.- OUAZ takes home game two against Nelson University by a final score of 10-8. OUAZ improves their record to 12-1 on the year and takes the series outright over Nelson.

Nelson University (AZ) jumped out to an early lead in the first with a 3-spot that was quickly combated by a 3-spot of OUAZ's own. Designated hitter Greg Bozinovich cleared the bases with a 3 RBI double to knot up the score at 3-3 in the first. OUAZ added another 3 runs in the second to take the lead. Nicholas Lustig brought in two runs on a 2 RBI single and Owen Prendergast singled to add another run for the Spirit. OUAZ added another run in the third inning when Christian Powell scored on a wild pitch. Nelson University added 1 run in the sixth and 4 runs in the eighth inning trying to mount a comeback. The Spirit answered with 1 run in the seventh and 2 in the eighth to pad their lead where it would stay at 10-8. Dante Leach roped an RBI triple in the eighth to score the first run and later scored on a Joey Winters RBI double. As a squad, OUAZ ripped 11 hits and saw 7 walks while stealing 8 bases.

The pitching staff for OUAZ did enough to notch another win for the Spirit. Tyler Bare came on in relief and threw four shutout innings to save OUAZ from a rough start. Mackenzie Salmon then came on and threw a shutout inning of his own. Brayden Marcum followed with two innings only allowing one run and then Brandon Enders closed things out and earned his first win of the season. OUAZ pitching logged an impressive 14 strikeouts as a unit today.

The Spirit will look to close things out and sweep the series against Nelson University (AZ). Game three will take place tomorrow at 6PM (MST) on Royals field 6.
