Spirit Lose in Close Battle

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The OUAZ Spirit women's basketball team put together a strong, competitive performance against the Oklahoma City Stars in a game that stayed close from start to finish. Behind standout efforts from Tiana Sledge and Jana Solee, the Spirit matched the Stars' intensity through all four quarters, showcasing grit, determination, and teamwork in a hard-fought contest.

  • 1st quarter (22-17): In the first quarter, both teams traded baskets in a tight battle that kept the score close throughout. Jana Solee led the way for OUAZ with 8 points, finding her rhythm early, while Tiana Sledge added 5 points to help keep the Spirit within reach heading into the second quarter.

  • 2nd quarter (41-43): The second quarter turned into another high-scoring, back-and-forth battle as both teams continued to trade baskets. The Spirit's offense stayed sharp, with Sledge taking charge and leading the way with 6 points in the period. Solee kept up her strong play, adding 5 more points to keep OUAZ in stride with the Stars heading into halftime.

  • 3rd quarter (66-66): The third quarter remained tightly contested as both teams continued to match each other's intensity on both ends of the floor. Solee caught fire in the period, leading the Spirit with 10 points, while Sledge stayed consistent with 7 of her own. OUAZ kept the pressure on, refusing to let the Stars pull away heading into the final quarter.

  • 4th quarter (89-92): The fourth quarter was another hard-fought battle, with both teams trading key baskets down the stretch. Despite the Spirit's effort, the Stars managed to pull ahead late and secure the win. Sledge led the Spirit in the final period with 10 points, while Solee followed closely with 7, as OUAZ continued to fight until the final buzzer.

Luka Wouters made history in the game by recording 10 assists, becoming only the third player in program history to reach double-digit assists in a single game. Her exceptional court vision and playmaking helped set up numerous scoring opportunities for the Spirit. Meanwhile, Jana Solee's 30-point performance now ranks among the top ten individual scoring games in program history, highlighting her scoring prowess and ability to lead the team offensively.
