Spirit Battle Hard Against Arkansas Baptist

ST LOUIS, Mo. — The OUAZ Spirit women's basketball team put up a determined effort against the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes in a game that featured shifts in momentum and strong individual performances. After a fast-paced opening quarter, the Spirit continued to fight through defensive stretches and offensive surges, showing grit and teamwork throughout the contest.

  • 1st quarter (20-22): In the opening quarter, both teams traded momentum in a high-scoring back-and-forth stretch. The Spirit found their rhythm early, with Jana Solee leading the way at 9 points behind confident shooting, while Tiana Sledge followed with 5 points to keep the offense flowing. The quarter's pace and intensity set the stage for a thrilling contest between two determined squads.

  • 2nd quarter (29-31): The second quarter told a different story as both teams slowed down offensively, turning the game into a defensive grind. Scoring opportunities were limited on both sides, but Jaya Little provided a spark for the Spirit, leading the team with 3 points in the quarter. Despite the low-scoring stretch, OUAZ continued to battle and maintain their intensity heading into halftime.

  • 3rd quarter (42-51): The third quarter saw the offense pick back up for both teams, but it was the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes who began to create some separation on the scoreboard. The Spirit continued to fight, with Brianna Humphries stepping up to lead the way with 6 points in the period. Despite the Buffaloes' run, OUAZ showed resilience and kept pushing to stay within reach heading into the final quarter.

  • 4th quarter (56-81): In the fourth quarter, the Buffaloes continued to extend their lead, pulling further ahead as the Spirit fought to close the gap. Despite a strong effort, the deficit proved too much for OUAZ to overcome. Brianna Humphries and Tiana Sledge led the way in the final period with 4 points each, continuing to compete until the final buzzer.
