Spirit Get Big GSAC Win on Road

Fullerton, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team had a big win on the road this evening, with a 3-1 victory over Hope International (OVR 6-12, GSAC 2-9) to open conference play. The win puts the Spirit at 18-3 on the year and they are now 10-2 in GSAC play.

  • Set 1 (25-15): OUAZ set the tone early as they controlled the set throughout, with a 10-2 run in the middle of the set that allowed the, to never look back. Jenna Sarff led the way for the Spirit with three kills, followed by three other Spirit players who had two kills each. Lauren Wamsley had back-to-back service aces early on to help the Spirit attack.
  • Set 2 (18-25): The Royals struck back in set two, going on multiple runs to even the match at 1-1. Gloria Moye and Jessica Pearce led the Spirit in set two with two kills each. Hannah Allman and Nina Peay each added a kill in the effort.
  • Set 3 (25-21): The Spirit continued their strong day, using a 4-0 run to pull ahead early and hold on for the 25-21 set three victory. Wamsley and Pearce led the way with four kills each. Amey Rainaud and Ana Newcomb contributed by adding a service ace each in the winning effort.
  • Set 4 (26-24): The Spirit were at one point down 20-15, but then outscored the Royals 11-4 the rest of the way to earn the match clinching, 26-24, set four victory. Moye led the way with six, followed by Wamsley and Pearce who added three more kills each to their totals, including Pearce scoring the match point. Wamsley also added another service ace in the winning effort.

OUAZ returns to Faith Arena on Tuesday, October 28 at 6 p.m. (MST) against West Coast Baptist. The Spirit will then head on the road to face La Sierra on Thursday, October 30, at 1 p.m. (MST).
