Spirit Blank Texas College, Return to Spirit Field Next Week

Tyler, Texas—OUAZ football carries a 4-0 start into the Lone Star State and shuts out Texas College 45-0. The team recently surged into #13 in the national polls and has looked great on both sides of the ball. Now sitting at 5-0 and undefeated in conference. The Spirit's long road-trip finally comes to an end, as they return home for some marquee matches in the coming weeks, starting with cross-town rival Arizona Christian next week.

Texas native Luke Giron, playing in familiar territory, led his offense and company to another productive outing. It seems like every week, the senior quarterback is putting this team on the board via the pass or with his legs. In today's matchup, Giron threw for two touchdowns and got it done with his legs, scrambling for another. Giron, at this point in the season, has clearly asserted himself among the top quarterbacks in the NAIA and will surely have pro scouts calling come spring. Lead back Jaylen MaGee is another name that has been all over the stat sheet following the beginning of the season. MaGee's ability to make plays not only out of the backfield but also in the receiving game separates him from other everyday running backs. For a third consecutive week, MaGee brought in a 35-yard touchdown to put the Spirit up big before halftime. This offense continues to score at will, scoring at least 28 points in every matchup this season. On a larger scale, this Giron-led offense is tied for 7th in the NAIA in points.

Defensively, this team is currently on a historic run. This afternoon's shutout performance has tied this defense for first place in the NAIA for the fewest points allowed per game (6.8). Coach D's defense has been foundationally sound all season, penetrating the backfield and having absolutely tight coverage in the secondary. This defense continues to rely heavily on turnovers and sets up the offense constantly in plus territory. This technique was on display again today following three interceptions, two of which were returned back for six. Shutdown corner and Arkansas Pine-Bluff transfer Braden Robinson had the first turnover of the game, making a brilliant read and then running it back 17 yards for the score. Justice Sosnicki, one of the conference's top linebackers, made a standout play on the football, intercepting it and returning for a massive 32-yard pick-six. Standout defensive lineman Corey Floyd Jr. once again was consistently in the backfield delivering pressure and has a clear knack for getting to the football, as he once again led the team in tackles.

Your #13-ranked OUAZ football team continues its 2025 campaign under Coach Murphy in its first of several upcoming home marquee matchups against Arizona Christian on Saturday, October 18th, at 7pm. The team finally returns to Spirit Field after four consecutive road matches, so show up and support this team in a huge rivalry matchup.
