Mesa, Ariz. – OUAZ Women's Basketball ended the week with a tough loss on the road to Benedictine Mesa (7-8 OVR, 4-3 GSAC) 69-50. The loss gives the Spirit an overall record of 14-6 on the year, and they are now 4-3 in conference play.
The Spirit's defense played solidly, as they held the RedHawks to a 29.4% shooting percentage from the field, 36.8% shooting percentage from three, while forcing 21 turnovers that resulted 13 points for the Spirit. The Spirit's offense struggled however, shooting 27.6% from the field, and 23.1% from the three-point line. They also lost the turnover battle, giving up 28 turnovers that resulted in 22 points for Benedictine Mesa. The Spirit's shooting struggles and turnovers played key factors in today's loss.
Two Spirit players finished with double-digit points, led by Angel Addleman who put who scored 13 points, while adding a steal, five rebounds, and two assists on a 45.5% shooting percentage. OUAZ also got contributions from Tiana Sledge, who had a line of 12 points, and 11 rebounds on the day.
The Spirit will head on the return home next Thursday on January 30th to play against The Master's at 5:30 PM (MST). They will then head to Prescott to finish the week on the road against Embry-Riddle on Saturday, February 1st at 2:30PM (MST).
