OUAZ Director of Athletics Kevin Steele is proud to announce Brady Barrett as the new head coach of the Spirit golf programs. Barrett has already put great work into the two teams as the 2024-2025 season draws near.
"It is a privilege for us to welcome Brady to the Spirit Athletics family," Steele said. "Brady brings a wealth of knowledge and great enthusiasm to our program. He has a good understanding of what has been built here and strong desire to continue to push OUAZ Golf to greater success."
Barrett comes over from Benedictine Mesa where he held the same position. During his time with the Redhawks, he coached teams that won conference championships and appeared in the NAIA National Tournament.
"I am excited to be joining OUAZ as the new Head Coach of the Spirit Golf programs," Barrett said. "I want to thank Kevin Steele for this amazing opportunity to be a part of the OUAZ family. Coach Tina Barrett did an amazing job here, and I cannot wait to start working with the team, striving for a positive impact on and off the course."
Barrett led the Benedictine Mesa men's program to its best season in program history last season, winning the Cal Pac Tournament and making the Redhawks' first appearance in the NAIA National Championship as a team. For his efforts, Barrett was named 2023 Cal Pac Men's Golf Coach of the Year.
In that 2023-24 season, Barrett coached Cal Pac Men's Golfer of the Year James Mackie, and coached the women's program to its best finish at the conference tournament ever. Barrett's talent and commitment to recruiting saw BenU have the most golfers in its program history as well.
Barrett was no stranger to NAIA golf prior to joining the coaching ranks, as he played three years at Hastings College. The Nebraska native played golf and basketball for the Mustangs, excelling as a two-sport athlete in his home state. Prior to Hastings, Barrett spent one year at Central Community College playing two sports.
Barrett got into the NAIA coaching world as an assistant for the Hastings men's basketball team, where he helped in every area of the program. On top of being an engaged coach, hewith the players, Barrett also recruited, coordinated trips, managed the budget, assisted with the Hastings College Foundation.
"Brady has built winners everywhere he's been, and he does it with a zeal for following Jesus, encouraging others to do the same," Steele said. "His recruiting prowess has been showcased at two other NAIA institutions, and we are excited about the impact he will make on our very successful programs."
