SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The No. 23 OUAZ women's soccer team returned home on Friday, looking to keep its perfect record in Surprise in tact against The Master's. The two teams battled to a tie through 45 minutes, but the Mustangs found the deciding goal in the 62nd minute as OUAZ was defeated for the first time at home in 2024.
After conceding the first goal in the 13', the Spirit found an answer in the 36' thanks to Miranda Pena's first of the season. Following a good corner kick, OUAZ used the ensuing scramble to equalize the game, with Krystal Sanchez feeding Pena to find the back of the net.
The Spirit would finish with eight shots, four of them finding its way on goal. The two OUAZ keepers would finish with a combined 12 saves, with Chloe Avila making nine, and LJ Hempel stopping three in her 29 minutes of action.
OUAZ will head out of state for the first time this conference season next week when they take on Life Pacific next Thursday, Oct. 3.
