Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Spirit Come Back to Win Home Opener in Five

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team played its second straight contest against Montana State-Northern, this time it was five days later and in a different state. The Spirit took on the Skylights in its home opener, battling back from down 2-1 to take a five-set victory.

Leading 24-21 in the fourth set, the Spirit almost felt a familiar feeling as they let the Skylights score the next three points and tie the score. OUAZ dug in and were able to score the next two points to take the set, and dominated the fifth set to take home the win.

It was another fantastic night for Lauren Wamsley, who finished with a game-high and 18 kills for her fourth consecutive double-double to start the season. Jessica Pierce added 15 kills (.419 ATK%), and newcomer Jenna Sarff had 10 kills of her own as the Spirit tallied 64 on Thursday.

Kaiden Raif and Beatriz Paolinetti had great nights dishing the ball, getting 20+ kills each. Raif led the Spirit with 24, and Paolinetti had 20 as the Spirit offense averaged over 10 kills per set.

Defensively the Spirit were all over the court, posting 115 digs and six blocks. Amey Rainaud had 30 digs to lead OUAZ, and four different players had at least 15 digs.

The Spirit will play again tomorrow, wrapping up the second day of the OUAZ Invitational against Caroll College. First serve from Faith Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
