The OUAZ baseball team improved its record to 9-1 overall by sweeping a doubleheader over Bethesda University of California on Friday by scores of 13-0 and 7-0 on Royals Field 6.

In game two, junior
Zach Hangas set a new OUAZ record with 14 strikeouts on the mound, besting the previous mark of 11 sat by Anthony Quattrocchi against Jarvis Christian on March 9, 2011.

"We had phenomenal starting pitching," Head Coach
Tim Montez said after the game. "I don't care who you play; if you get pitching like that, you're going to give your team a chance just about every ballgame."

Game one starter senior
Evan Massie did a fine job as well, going the complete game victory, allowing two hits while striking out nine.

The rest of Hangas' line was 6.1 innings, one hit and two walks. No Bethesda player went past second base.

Offensively, Daniel Durrazo had a fantastic day for the Spirit, going six of nine with five runs scored and three RBI, including a home run that traveled down the right field line.

The catchers (
Joel Esparza in game one and
Nano Perez in game two) combined to go four for five with a double and two runs batted in.

Joey Winters went two for two in game one with a pair of runs scored and four runs batted in, three on a home run to right center.
