On Saturday, the OUAZ Softball team stole two wins…literally, defeating Carroll College of Montana 7-4 and 8-0 (five innings) in a doubleheader at Willow Canyon High School.
 
The team stole eight bags on the day, with seven (a new school record) in the second game.
 
"The offense did a great job of putting together quality at bats all day," head coach Ernesto Ortiz said following the sweep.  "We were aggressive on the bases and were able to generate runs.  The pitching staff did an outstanding job setting the tone from the start, keeping hitters off balance and pitching to contact, allowing our defense to work."
 
Five batters had three hits on the day.  Shortstop Brooklyne Esquibel went three for six, three runs scored and had a two-run home run to cap off a six-run sixth inning in game one.  Junior outfielder Mia Casadei went three for six on the day with two RBI.  Infielder Elysa Moreno went three for eight from the leadoff spot with two runs scored and an RBI.  Infielder Savannah Sutton had three hits in four at bats.
 
OUAZ will return to the Willow Canyon High School diamond on Thursday when they host the pre-season top-ranked team Oregon Tech for a doubleheader.  Game times are set for 4 and 6 p.m.  The Owls and Spirit met in a doubleheader last year with the teams splitting the games.
