GLENDALE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ baseball headed east on Friday, taking on Arizona Christian in a big early-season GSAC matchup. After falling down 5-0 in the second, the Spirit came within one run of a full rally before ultimately falling 9-6.

OUAZ scored four runs in the fourth inning, pulling within one run of the Firestorm, who built their lead with a five spot earlier in the game. The big hit of the frame came via Christian Powell, who had a two-run triple. Powell then came to score on a Logan Meyer single.

The Spirit then pulled within one run, this time at 6-5, when Nick Fratantoni brought in Owen Prendergast during the seventh inning. OUAZ scored again in the top of the ninth when Gio Alvillar drove in Meyer with a single down the left field line.

Seven different Spirit players had a hit on Friday, and Meyer had a pair. Meyer also walked once, and was one of two OUAZ members to have an extra-base hit.
The series is still up for grabs, as the Spirit will face the Firestorm in two games on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader from Greenway High School is set for 4 p.m.
