Spirit Shoot Well, Humphries Dominates to Stay Unbeaten

WAXAHACHIE, TEXAS – For the second straight day, the OUAZ women's basketball team used an impressive third quarter performance to earn a victory in the state of Texas. Friday's opponent, Nelson, led after the first quarter, but the Spirit won the final 30 minutes of play by 14 to wrap up its road trip undefeated.

Coming out of the half, the Spirit made 11 of its 14 shots in the third quarter, including a perfect 5-for-5 from three. In that same quarter, OUAZ held Nelson to just 28.6% shooting while crashing the glass for eight rebounds.

Brianna Humphries put together a career day, scoring 28 points, pulling in 11 rebounds, and dishing out seven assists. All of those totals were game highs on Friday, along with leading the contest in blocks and steals.

Humphries also shot the ball very well, making 12 of her 17 shot attempts (70.6%) to contribute to the great shooting day for the Spirit as a whole. OUAZ posted a 55% field goal percentage, and made half of its attempts beyond the arc.

Tiana Sledge also had a solid game, scoring 14 points and pulling in six rebounds in the victory. The Spirit were fantastic sharing the ball as well, getting 26 assists on 33 made field goals.

OUAZ will return home for a few days before getting back on the road for a trip on the California DIII circuit. The first of a three-game, three-day stretch comes on Wednesday when the Spirit play Occidental, with tipoff set for 8:00 p.m. AZT/7:00 p.m. PST.
