FARMER'S BRANCH, TEXAS – A huge third quarter from the OUAZ women's basketball team allowed the Spirit to pull away from Dallas Christian en route to a 72-49 win on Thursday night. After taking a nine-point lead into the half, the Spirit outscored DCC 24-8 in the third frame, showing off its offensive firepower on one end and its defensive intensity on the other.
In that third quarter, OUAZ made 50% of its shots while limiting Dallas Christian to just three field goal makes. The Spirit defense also forced 11 turnovers, blocked four shots, and pulled in 11 rebounds.
Brianna Humphries was one rebound shy of a double-double, pulling in nine rebounds while scoring 18 points. The NCCAA All-American also played hard defensively, getting eight steals and two blocks.
Tiana Sledge (12), Angel Addleman (11) and Cierra Kiser (10) all had double-digit point totals as well, with 12 different Spirit players recording a point. Addleman also had four assists, the game's second most behind Marlee Johnson's six.
OUAZ will finish up its Texas Two-Step on Friday when they visit Nelson. Tipoff is set for Noon p.m. AZT/1:00 p.m. CST.
