Spirit Keep on Rolling as They Complete 3-Set Sweep

After starting the season 2-4, OUAZ Women's Volleyball has found their winning formula. The Spirit continued their hot streak on Tuesday evening as they went on to take a three-set sweep of Justice College. OUAZ is riding a three-game winning streak and have now won six of their last seven matches. The win moves the Spirit to three games over .500 at 8-5 and their conference record of 4-1 keeps them in a tie for second place in the GSAC standings with new conference foe, Benedictine Mesa.

Set 1:

The first set started out strong for the Spirit as they went on to win 25-16. Nina Peay and Brooklynn Dribnak led the effort with three kills, with Jessica Pearce, Keira Adrian, and Katie Janzen each having two kills of their own. Tiana Fisher closed out the set victory with two service aces.

Set 2:

After falling behind 15-14, the Spirit went on a 10-4 run to take a 25-18 set-two victory. Peay once again led the effort with five kills, and got help from Kaitlin Brown, whose three kills scored the Spirit's three final points of the set. Kaiden Raif also added four service aces to the winning effort.

Set 3:

The Spirit finished the match with 25-17 victory. Janzen led the scoring effort with three kills and a service ace, with help from Shockey who amassed two kills, and Jenna Sarff with two kills. Peay added her the day with her ninth kill and a service ace of her own.

Top Performers:

Your top performer tonight was Peay, who amassed 10.5 points which included nine kills, a blocking assist, and a service ace. Raif also played a crucial role in tonight's victory with 10 assists, while also putting 5 points of her own on the board four services aces. Janzen also put a solid game together as well with a 6-point performance that included five kills and a service ace of her own. The Spirit also got contributions from Kuehn (5 points and three service aces), Shockey with three key blocks (one solo block and two blocking assists), Dribnak (4.5 points and four kills), and Fisher (8 digs and two service aces).

Up Next:

The Spirit return home to play West Coast Baptist on Thursday, October 10th at 5pm. OUAZ will finish the week off with a crucial two-game stretch on the road where they will play Benedictine Mesa (11-3 Overall, 3-1 Conference) on Friday, October 11th at 6pm, and longtime rival Arizona Christian (11-9 Overall, 1-4 Conference) Saturday, October 12th, at 2pm.
