ANGWIN, CALIF. – The OUAZ women's basketball team started off its season with a dominant victory over Pacific Union on Thursday. The Spirit won every quarter by at least 10 points, and pulled away quickly to start 1-0 for the second straight season.
Showing off its depth in the opener, 14 different OUAZ players scored at least a point, and 13 had at least one made field goal. The Spirit also pulled in 38 rebounds as a team, including 16 on the offensive glass.
Four players scored 10+ points for OUAZ, led by its two-sport stars Brianna Humphries and Charli Cook. Those two forwards had 14 points each while Tianna Sledge had 12 and Angel Addleman had 10.
Humphries shot 60% from the floor, and was 6-7 from inside the arc. The junior led the contest with five steals, and nine different players recorded a steal against the Pioneers.
Cierra Kiser had a great day grabbing boards and dishing the ball, leading the game six rebounds and four assists. As a team defensively, OUAZ allowed only eight made field goals and forced 25 turnovers.
The Spirit will finish up its road trip with a matchup against Cal State Maritime on Friday. Tipoff from Vallejo, Calf. is set for 5:30 p.m.
