Spirit Bounce Back to Finish Week Strong Against GSAC Rival

Glendale, ARIZ.- The Spirit bounce back after their winning streak ended at 4 with a 3-1 set Victory over Arizona Christian (13-11 OVR, 2-5 GSAC) on Saturday. The win moves the Spirit to 10-6 and their conference record of 5-2 which moved OUAZ up to third place in the GSAC.

Set 1:

The first set was a back-and-forth affair, as the Spirit on to win 25-22. Lauren Wamsley led the team with seven kills, with Jessica Pearce having four kills, and Kaitlin Brown having three kills of her own.

Set 2:

The Firestorm responded in the second set to get 25-22 set victory. Wamsley, Pearce, and Brown each had three kills. Katy Shockey added two kills and Reegan Shoquist had a service ace in the effort.

Set 3:

The Spirit would need 26 points to win a back-and-forth affair 26-24 to take a 2-1 set lead. Brown led the way with eight kills, with three kills by both Wamsley and Shockey. Wamsley had two service aces during the set.

Set 4:

The Spirit came back in the fourth set for a match-clinching 25-23 set victory. Wamsley, Pearce, and Shockey led the way with four kills each, followed by Nina Peay with three kills, and Logan Kuehn with two kills.

Top Performers:

The Spirit had some great performances in today's victory. Wamsley continued to add to her amazing season with a game high 19 points, which included a game high 17 kills, 19 digs, and two service aces. Brown also played well with 14.5 points, 14 kills, 17 digs and one blocking assist. Pearce put together a solid game with 12.5-points, 11 kills and three blocking assists. Shockey also had a good day with 10 points on 10 kills. The Spirit also got contributions from Logan Kuehn (four kills, two blocking assists, and 21 assists), Beatriz Poalinetti (18 assists), and Kaiden Raif (10 assists and one service ace).  

Up Next:

The Spirit will play two contests next week, starting with a home game against Justice College on Tuesday, October 15th at 6pm. They will then play a home game against GSAC opponent Park Gilbert (4-7 OVR, 0-7 GSAC) on Thursday, October 17th at 6pm.
