What does the OUAZ Spirit women's soccer team do on a Monday morning, while hanging out in Oklahoma? They go out and defeat Oklahoma City University 2-0 in the final non-conference match of the season.
Heather Walker and
Paytyn Okey scored the goals for the Spirit (7-1-0), while the tandem of
Akela Patterson and
Chloe Avila turned in a clean sheet against Oklahoma City University (3-3-1).
In the first half, Okey scored her first goal of the season, which also ends up being the game-winning goal.
In the 74th minute, Melinda Lertzman passed the ball to Karrissa Frerichs who took a shot. The shot was partially blocked and landed at the feet of Walker who got it past the keeper for the insurance goal.
The Spirit were credited with 15 shots, seven of them on target. OCU was limited to just six shots total, with three on target.
OUAZ will take ten days off to train and prepare for Golden State Athletic Conference play that begins on Sept. 28 when they travel to Menlo College.
