In a jaw-dropping performance that left fans and pundits alike in awe, OUAZ delivered an absolute masterclass on the field, dismantling Texas College with a resounding score of 62-14 in a Sooner Athletic Conference game.
Â
Luke Giron scored twice with his feet and another two times with his arm as the Spirit (2-1, 1-1 SAC) just frankly toyed with the Steers (0-3, 0-1 SAC). The 14 points that TC scored is tied for the fewest points allowed in a conference game in OUAZ history (Lyon, Nov. 2019). The margin of victory (48) is good for eighth in the OUAZ record books.
Â
Giron threw for 203 yards on 19 of 27 throwing with the pair of touchdown passes and an interception.
Â
Stephen Bradford carried the ball 20 times for 119 yards rushing with a pair of touchdowns. Three Spirit players (
Jordan Wilmore (13-115-1) and Jh'dan Lester (18-1-5-1)) rushed for over 100 yards. The last time that the Spirit had two running backs run for 100 yards was against Texas Wesleyan in 2019. The 357 yards on the ground by the team is the second most in school history trailing only the game against Lyon last season that saw the OUAZ rushing attack go off for 372 yards. Three of the top 10 team rushing performances in school history are against the Steers.
Â
Mateo Alicea was the top tackler for the Spirit as he logged five tackles in the game. Cannon Andrue got to the Steer quarterback the most logging 1.5 sacks. As a squad, the defense secured five total interceptions. They also held the Steer rushing attack to negative-16 yards on the night.
Â
Giron got the party started with a 15-yard rush to get the Orange and Red on the board first, just over three minutes into the game. Midway through the first quarter,
Jeremiah Wright caught an eight-yard pass from Giron, but the extra point was blocked, 13-0 Spirit. Before the first quarter ended, Bradford would punch it in from seven yards out to make it 20-0 OUAZ.
Â
The second quarter started just like the first. Giron ran the ball in for a touchdown, this time from just the two-yard line. Jh'dan Lester got into the endzone midway through the quarter on s six-yard run to make it 34-0 and the rout was on.
Â
Just 23 seconds before halftime, Texas College would score on a 20-yard pass and get the two-point conversion to close to within 34-8 at intermission.
Â
The entire second half was nearly nothing but OUAZ scores. First it was
Da'Vicious Wilson catching a 21-yard pass from Giron to make it 41-8 OUAZ. Just under five minutes left in the third,
Jordan Wilmore scored his touchdown from 22-yards out to increase the lead to 48-8.
Â
To close out the scoring in the fourth quarter, Bradford punched it in from a yard out, and
Kavan Johnson would catch a
Jake Simmons pass from 26-yards out to close out the Spirit scoring with 62. A 74-yard bomb for Texas College would close out the scoring to make it 62-14.
