The OUAZ Spirit split their two matches on day two of the 2023 OUAZ Invitational at Faith Arena on Friday, Aug. 25th.
In the early match against Montana Western University, the team dropped another tough five-set match by a 23-25, 12-25, 25-18, 25-20, 12-15 score.
Kenzie Kuxhaus moved into the record books with 42 digs in the match, which is the second best match ever, trailing only Leni Bartley's 50 against Hope International in 2018.
Lauren Wamsley (13 kills and 11 digs) and
Beatriz Paolinetti (23 assists and 10 digs) both registered a double-doubles, the first two of the season for the Spirit, in the loss. Other notables in the match were
Kaia Nowlin-Chaffino with 11 kills,
Cristal Carrizoza had 32 assists, and
Reannan Bihlmeier had 11 digs.
In the nightcap, the Spirit got their first win of the season in yet another five-set match, their third of the young season. OUAZ alternated sets with 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 17-25, 17-15 scores. Wamsley had another double-double with 13 kills and 17 digs.
Logan Kuehn led the squad with 20 assists, with Paolinetti close behind with 17. Nowlin-Chaffino led all players with six assisted blocks while
Brittnie Henige had five assisted blocks.
