The OUAZ Spirit Women's volleyball team closed up shop on the 2023 OUAZ Invitational with a three-set sweep of Park Gilbert on Saturday, Aug. 26 by 25-11, 25-21, 25-21 scores.

Gracie Johnson had a double-double in the match with 14 assists and 10 digs.  Madison Wampler led all attackers with 10 kills.  Logan Kuehn also had 14 assists in the match.  Kenzie Kuxhaus had a match-high 14 digs.

In the first set with Park was leading 7-6, the Spirit (2-3) said "OK, enough of this" and went on an 11-1 run to lead 18-7 lead.  Included in that run was a pair of service aces by Kuxhaus.  A little later, Brooklyn Dribnak had a couple of clutch kills as well.

In set two, it was a run of six points that was the deciding factor.  Four attack errors and a block by Gracie Johnson helped secure the set.

To close out the match, it was a seven-point run late in the set that secured everything.  Victoria Tennon had a lot to do with that seven-point run.  She either killed or blocked to get five of the seven.

The team travels to Southern California to participate in the Saint Katherine tournament in San Marcos Thursday through Saturday.  They will be playing UC Merced and La Sierra College on Thursday in back-to-back matches starting at 4:00 p.m.  On Friday, they will be taking on Carroll College out of Montana at 4:00 p.m. and then wrapping things up on Saturday with matches against Friends University out of Wichita, Kansas at 8:00 a.m. and the host Firebirds at 2:00 p.m.  All matches will be played at the USK Sports Complex.  Tournament passes will be $22, while day passes are $15 (one pass for as many games on a single day) and can be bought at the event.
