Santa Barbara, Calif. — OUAZ's men's and women's track teams participated in the Golden State Athletic Conference Track Championships on the Westmont College campus. Both teams finished sixth but left with an individual champion, a second-place and points in 16 events.
"I told the team, just because we did not win, or get the places we may have hoped for, does not mean we failed," said Spirit head coach Kyle Will. "We only fail when we stop trying to get better. I'm super proud!"

Track can be a misleading sport where the success isn't just measured by the place you finished. For example, that the men's 4x100m relay where OUAZ was seeded second with a seed time of 43.31. In the finals the team finished fifth but set a new best time of 43.07.
"We finished with 3 All-Conference athletes (Ronieka in both Long Jump and 100m, Ryan Fimbres in the 400m and Landyn Lovelady in the 400 hurdles)," added Will. "Ryan came close to breaking the school record in the 400 and now holds the second fastest time in school history. Overall this was a really good event for our program."
