OUAZ Puts Eight into Friday Finals

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The first day of the GSAC Track & Field Championship ended with the OUAZ track & field team having eight athletes qualify for the finals of nine events to take place on Friday. In the field event finals held on Thursday, the Spirit women totaled 13 points, with the men scoring three.

Ayala Harris earned her way into the finals of two events. She ran 12.63 seconds in the 100 Meters to place third in her heat and fifth overall. Harris also went 26.24 seconds in the 200 Meters to make the final with a second-place finish in her heat and fifth overall.

Ronieka Robinson secured a spot in the final of the 100 Meters by finishing in 12.34 seconds. That time was good for third in the prelims.

Leina Carvalho was fifth in the 100 Hurdles by completing her heat in 16.44 seconds. Carvalho scored four points with a fifth-place finish in the Javelin by hitting a mark of 29.48 meters.

LyQualah Kinsey qualified for the final of the 400 Meters in her time of 1:01.65 to place seventh in the prelims. Kinsey added a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.96 meters. That result scored five points for the team.

Jacey Danks finished sixth in the Discus with a throw of 28.04 meters, and Chantelle Simpkins jumped 4.48 meters in the Long Jump to finish eighth.

On the men's side, Tristan Wheeler qualified for the finals of the 200 Meters. He was fourth in the prelims with a personal-best time of 22.62 seconds.

Larry Scott completed the 400 Meters in 50.99 seconds to place fifth and earn a finals berth.

OUAZ had two make the finals of the 100 Meters. Kyle Logan finished the prelims in sixth with his time of 11.30 seconds. Joshua Gervacio ran 11.37 seconds to place seventh.

Zanaan Bane locked in a seventh-place result in the Long Jump by leaping 6.05 meters. Jeremiah LaSalle hit a mark of 32.03 meters in the Discus to place eighth.

The action resumes on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Men's Decathlon events. The first event featuring OUAZ athletes is at noon with the Women's Shot Put.
