SURPRISE, Ariz. -- OUAZ Softball (24-19) had a rollercoaster ride of a weekend, getting outscored 22-1 in the Friday Doubleheader but bouncing back Saturday afternoon, taking both games against San Diego Christian on their Spirit Senior day.Â
GAME ONE: OUAZ 0, Westcliff 10
Not much went right for OUAZ in game one of their four game weekend, mustering up just two hits in the game from Breanna Gonzalez and Lauren Russell.
Jazmine Ayala was tagged with the loss, after tossing 5.2 innings, allowing 10 runs.Â
GAME TWO: OUAZ 1, Westcliff 12
The Spirit were able to notch six hits and one run in game two, but in the end it wasn't enough. Westcliff put up 12 runs, including seven in the seventh inning.
Alexandra McCutcheon threw a quality six innings allowing four earned, but still picked up the loss.
GAME THREE: OUAZ 5, SDCC 3
OUAZ edged San Diego Christian in game one on Saturday, by the score of 5-3.
The Hawks were up early after scoring three runs in the top the first but the Spirit responded back with a three run fourth courtesy of a double from Kelli Samorano and a triple from Savannah Sutton.Â
OUAZ took the lead in the fifth on an RBI triple from Breanna Gonzalez, to bring Charlene De Anda around to score.Â
Laurynn De Anda added on the final run with an RBI groundout, sending Gonzalez to the plate.
Kelli Samorano was a game changer behind the plate, recording two hits and two RBI's on three at bats. Three additional Spirit members batted in runners while four total members earned runs.Â
Alexandra McCutcheon went the distance from the circle, pitching all seven innings for the Spirit. Giving up just six hits and three runs off 29 at bats, the grad student threw four strikeouts, enough to earn the win.Â
GAME FOUR: OUAZ 8, SDCC 5
Once again, San Diego Christian captured an early lead in game two, scoring four runs across the first four innings.
Despite the Spirit's scoreless four innings, they came back in the fifth to tally four runs, tying up the game.Â
Laurynn De Anda had an RBI single to start things off, followed by Savannah Sutton blasting a 3-run homer to square things up at four a piece. Sutton had another RBI hit in the sixth, on a double to left field to bring another run home.Â
Charlene De Anda laced an RBI double to take the OUAZ's first lead of the game and the Spirit would not look back after.Â
De Anda, Gonzalez, Sutton and Elysa Moreno would all have a multi-hit game behind the plate with De Anda picking up a game high of three. The Senior went 4-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Sutton, was a force to be reckoned with, finishing the game with one run, two hits and four RBIs. Her batted in runs puts her atop the Spirit leader board in single game RBIs this season.Â
Overall eight Spirit players collected hits and five collected RBIs, giving the Spirit eight hits on the day and eight RBIs.
McCutcheon picked up her second win of the day after tossing the final three innings. She faced 12 batters, giving up just three hits and one run while striking out six. The veteran pitcher took only 30 pitches to finish the game, striking out her final two batters faced.

The OUAZ Spirit will head on the road one last time to take on Vanguard and Hope International next weekend on Friday and Saturday.
OUAZ will conclude their regular season at home on April 25th, with a doubleheader against Arizona Christian.Â
