Spirit Split Doubleheader Friday Afternoon

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- OUAZ Baseball (14-23-1) split with Arizona Christian in their doubleheader Friday afternoon. They took game one 12-8, and lost the night cap by the score of 7-4 in eight innings.

GAME ONE

OUAZ put up the first run in score column thank to a sac-fly from Sergio Alfaro in the first. The Firestorm then put up seven unanswered runs across the next four innings.

The Spirit chipped back thank to two huge two-RBI doubles, one in the 5th from Justin Brodt, and the other from Joey Winters in the sixth to cut the ACU lead to just one, 7-6. Good guys took the lead a few batters later on a wild pitch to bring around Nicholas Lustig and would never look back.

Gabriel DeJesus smacked a double in the left-center gap in the seventh to put the Spirit up by three, 10-7. Winters added on even more with an RBI single directly after. The sweet swinging Junior lefty finished the game with two hits, two walks, and three RBI's.

Leadoff hitter, DeJesus, finished game one two hits, two RBI's, and three runs himself to cap off a big day. Sergio Alfaro continued his strong season, with two hits and two RBI's en route to an OUAZ win.

Luke Tedrick earned the win after tossing 2.2 innings allowing just one run in those frames.

GAME TWO

Spirit errors came back to haunt them in the night cap of the doubleheader. Thanks to four errors, four of the seven runs given up were unearned. Trey Trimble got the start and threw a marvelous seven innings, six hits and striking out three. He did not factor into the contest.

Three of those errors came in the second inning, one from Nathan Tarver on a throw to second and the other two from Nicholas Lustig.

OUAZ tied the game up in seventh at four, credit to Deon Reese on a RBI single to center field.

The Firestorm answered back quickly in the top half of the eighth hitting two homers off Creighton Silvain who came in relief for Trimble to go up 6-4.

Sergio Alfaro had two hits and two RBI's once again in this contest, as he got the scoring going for the Spirit in the first with a two-RBI double.
