SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Spirit played in a back-and-forth heavily involved offense battle Tuesday evening. OUAZ and Embry-Riddle combined for 24 runs on 36 hits across the full nine innings, but the Spirit fell 13-11. These two will play next Tuesday for season series rubber match.
Being down 9-0 through two innings, OUAZ bats got hot themselves and managed to tie the game up at nine in the fifth inning, thanks to two-RBI double from Bradley Wilkison.
The Eagles then put across four more runs in the sixth and seventh, as it would be enough for the win.
Six different Spirit hitters recorded multi-hit games, included Wilkison and Joey Winters who both drove in 3+ runs.
A big reason why OUAZ eliminated a nine-run lead was a Winters grand slam in the sixth inning to cut the Embry Riddle lead to just 3. Sergio Alfaro belted a homer right after Joey in the order, inching his team even closer. Alfaro ended with three hits and two RBI's on the afternoon.
The trio of Brandon Smith, Luke Tedrick, and Kapono Rawlins threw a combined three and a third shutout innings to make the Spirit comeback possible.
OUAZ is back at home this weekend against Arizona Christian, with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 2 p.m. PST and one game on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. PST
