The sixth-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team found out that Life on the road can be difficult. Coming off an easy three-set win at Hope International on Friday night, the Spirit struggled in a four-set loss at Vanguard on Saturday. Solid serving and blocking helped the Vanguard get the win by the scores of 25-11, 25-18, 24-26, 25-14.
The loss moves OUAZ to 7-3 overall/3-2 in GSAC play and snaps a three-match win streak. The Lions improved to 9-3 overall and stay undefeated (5-0) in the league action.
The Lions served up a season-high 11 aces, while OUAZ had just one. VU owned a 10.0-5.0 advantage in blocks and limited the Spirit to a .062 hitting percentage. Quaid King led OUAZ with 12 kills, while Emery Outin added 10 with a team-high three blocks.
The Spirit have three more matches away from home (Benedictine Mesa 3/8, UC Santa Cruz 3/10 and Menlo 3/11) before returning home against seventh-ranked Georgetown (Ky) on March 14.
