MESA, Ariz. – The OUAZ Spirit (7-4, 3-2) fell 3-1 to Benedictine Mesa (13-3, 7-0) in Mesa on Wednesday night. After beginning their conference season only last weekend, the Spirit are now on a 2-0 loss streak.
OUAZ was able to keep the sets close, with two lost sets being only a two point differential. With final set scores of 18-25, 26-24, 22-25, 26-28 the Spirit were unable to make the connection to bring home a victory.
Despite the loss, the two competitors stayed neck-and-neck, both offensively and defensively equal on paper. The two went 67-75 in points, 53-57 in kills, 49-54 in assists and 37-29 in digs, with all but the ladder in favor of the Redhawks.
Emery Outin (15) and Quaid King (10) led the offense with kills in the double digits, while Carson Mott finished with 41 assists on the night.
Hot on defense was Michael Kaglialis with five blocks and Mott with 10 digs.
The Spirit will be back on the court on Friday, March 10 to take on UC Santa Cruz in California before picking up conference play once again on Saturday, March 11.
