SURPRISE, Ariz. – Against the No. 1 team in the country, the No. 4 OUAZ Spirit (11-5, 4-3) put up a hard fight but eventually fell in four sets to Vanguard (14-3, 8-0). With finishing set scores of 25-22, 28-26, 18-25, 26-24 in favor of the lions, the Spirit did not go out without a fight.
OUAZ were determined to make the Lions work for their victory, coming back from as big as six point deficits to keep the sets close.
Addah Nestor had another huge night on offense, making 13 kills, the most of the night for the Spirit. Followed By Emery Outin (12), Blake Music (12), Quaid King (11), the Spirit had 62 total kills, seven more than their opponent. Music finished as the most accurate hitter of the night, hitting .526, making 12 kills out of 19 attempts.
Tyler Gardenhire and Carson Mott contributed to 95% of the Spirit's assists on the night, with only three of the team's 59 assists coming from other members.
The two competitors were neck and neck on defense with the Spirit out blocking the Lion's 8-7. Though, as far as serving, OUAZ took the lead, with six aces on the night.
