OUAZ Winning Streak Now at Three, Bests Eagles Tuesday Night

Surprise Ariz. – Spirit snagged a win Tuesday night over the Embry-Riddle Eagles by the score of 4-2. OUAZ now extends their winning streak to three games after taking the final two games in the series against British Columbia last weekend.

The Spirit scored their first run of the game off an error in the second inning. Eagles would go on to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth. OUAZ answered back the following inning thanks to a Daniel Partida RBI double down the left-field line.

Another Embry-Riddle error in the seventh gave the Spirit what would eventually become the winning run. Gabriel DeJesus laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring home Nathan Tarver, extending their lead to two.

OUAZ sent seven different guys to the bump today, with five of them recording scoreless appearances. Vinny Sargent picked up his first win of the season after blanking Embry-Riddle in the eighth inning. Kapono Rawlins closed the door in the ninth striking out two batters and recording his first save of the season.

Spirit Standouts

Joey Winters reached base safely in all five plate appearances on the night, after recording one hit, two walks, and two hit by pitches. The junior from Minnesota raises his season average to .467 with an on-base percentage of .609 both good enough for the team lead.

Spirit baseball is back in action Thursday night when they take on So Cal Leadership at 5 pm on Royals Field 6. Live stats and live stream will be available.
