Spirit Sweep Doubleheader Over Menlo in Dramatic Fashion

Surprise, Ariz. – The OUAZ Spirit had quite the start in conference play Thursday afternoon beating Menlo College in both games of their doubleheader. The score was 10-1 in the first game, followed up by a score of 2-1 in the night cap.
 
The left-handed pitcher Connor Wilson toed the rubber for Coach Montez, and he was masterful in seven innings of work. He allowed no runs, no walks, and struck out six Menlo batters. He walked away with a win, improving to 2-1 on the year with a 1.65 ERA.


 
Nick Lustig was once again the star in the Spirit lineup. The team leader in RBI's drove in three in game one, bringing his total to 11 on the year. The center fielder notched four hits, two runs, and drew a walk in route to OUAZ's nine-run win.
 
Trey Trimble took the mound for Ottawa Arizona in game two, where he pitched a quality five innings. He allowed just one run and three hits while striking out eight. Trimble leads the staff in strikeouts with 20 through five appearances.
 
Creighton Silvian made his season debut and pitched four scoreless innings. He was near perfect surrendering just one baserunner and striking out four. Silvian picked up the win to move to 1-0 on the season.
 
The second of the two games on the day was much quieter than the first, with only three runs total scored. OUAZ picked up their first run in the third inning on a a passed ball where Jaimen Albizu came around to score.
 
Nick Fratantoni was the hero for the Spirit, as the sophomore layed down a perfect squeeze bunt with bases loaded down the first base line for the win in the bottom of the ninth.
 
The Spirit improve to 6-2 on the year, and 2-0 in conference play heading into tomorrow. They now own a five-game winning streak dating back to the British Columbia series.
 
They will close out the series against Menlo tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch coming at 2 pm MST. Game will be played on KC Royals Field Six. Live stats and live stream will be available.
