Baseball Continues Hot Streak, Sweep Menlo

Surprise, Ariz. – The Ottawa Arizona baseball team defeated the Menlo College Oaks by the score of 11-5 Friday afternoon. OUAZ sweeps their first GSAC conference series of the season in three games over Menlo.

OUAZ now owns a winning record all-time against their in-conference foe (7-6), outscoring them 23-7 in three games this weekend, with the Spirit putting up double digits on them twice.

Overview

Evan Massie took the bump and threw five innings of work. He allowed three runs on four hits and earned his second win of the season in just as many starts.

It was a team effort from the lineup today, as nine different hitters tallied hits and three separate Spirit batters recorded 2 RBIs on the day.

Joey Winters continued his strong start to the season with a pair of hits and RBIs. Daniel Partida was perfect on the day, not recording a single out at the plate. The OUAZ left fielder did it all today with two hits, two runs, two walks and a stolen base. Partida has reached base safely eight out of his thirteen plate appearances on the year.

The sixth inning was when the Spirit got sticks hot, putting up seven of their eleven total runs in the inning. Takaaki Tsuji cracked things open with a pinch-hit 2-RBI single, followed up by a 2-RBI double from the left-handed bat of Justin Brodt, extending the lead to seven.

Spirit continues to soar, as they now own a six-game winning streak since dropping the opening game of the series against British Columbia. Since that game they have nearly doubled their opponents score 53-27.

Spirit Sparks

Through nine games, the Spirit lineup has produced twelve different players to have an OBP of .350 or higher with 10 or more plate appearances.

As a team, OUAZ owns a .402 OBP and a 3.94 ERA. They have scored more (64-43) out hit their opponents (80-73) and stolen four more bases (13-9).

Ottawa Arizona baseball will now take an extended road trip and will not have a home game until Mar. 31st. They will be back in action next Friday when they take on Jessup in Rocklin, California.
