OUAZ Offense Explodes, Take Down Jessup

Surprise, Ariz. – OUAZ baseball took down Jessup (7-9) by the score of 9-5 Thursday evening, to improve to 8-2 overall on the year and 4-0 in conference play.

Thursday night's win over their conference opponent gives OUAZ  a seven-game win streak, including four straight starting GSAC play. The Spirit totaled nine runs with a season-high 18 hits against the Jessup pitching staff.

Overview
Southpaw Connor Wilson took the mound today for the Spirit, tossing 4-plus innings, surrendering one earned run and striking out seven. He did not qualify for the decision. The staple reliever, Luke Tedtrick, earned the win after tossing 1-plus scoreless innings while striking out two. Creighton Silivian came in and shut the door, striking out six batters in 2.1 innings and earning his first save on the year.

Gabriel DeJesus kicked things off for the Spirit with a lead-off solo shot down the left field line. Jessup answered back by scoring two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and would hold that lead until the fifth when OUAZ tied it up on a fielder's choice by Nicholas Lustig.

The Warriors struck back for three runs in the sixth, but that would be all for the night. OUAZ put up a four-run seventh and never looked back. Credit to the trio of Nicholas Lustig, Joey Winters, and Nathan Tarver in the heart of the Spirit lineup who recorded RBI base-hits in the inning to supplant themselves in front of the Warriors.

Nathan Tarver slapped a 2-RBI single the following inning to cement a Spirit win, followed up by a run for Jaimen Albizu, who scored on a wild pitch.

Spirit Standouts
Leadoff hitter Gabriel DeJesus had a monster game for OUAZ. The Washington product tallied four hits, three runs, and blasted his first home run of the season. Spirit second-baseman is now hitting at a .364 clip on the season in six games this season.

Joey Winters added to his torrid run at the plate recently, knocking in two runs on three hits, and coming around to score twice himself. Winters leads the team in OBP (.571) and OPS (1.107) and walks (8) through the team's first ten games.

The captain in the outfield, Nicholas Lustig, continues to stay hot at the plate. Lustig tallied two more RBI's and hits tonight extending his team lead to 13 in both categories on the young season.
