Surprise, Ariz. – The University of Ottawa Arizona baseball team defeated British Columbia Saturday afternoon by the score of 16-9, taking the series with this win. The Spirit move to 3-2 on the season while UBC falls to 1-2.
Tim Montez named
Evan Massie his starting pitcher for the rubber match. Massie was spectacular. In six innings of work, he allowed just one earned run, three hits, and punched out 10 Thunderbird batters. His record is now 1-1 early in the season.
Spirit Standouts
Nick Lustig once again had a stellar game for the Spirit. The Sophomore out of Peoria logged two hits, two walks, and four RBI's. He leads the team in RBI's (8) with
Deon Reese being next closest with five.
The Spirit got some quality production today from multiple players making their season debuts.
Jaimen Albizu tallied a two-RBI double in the sixth, to bring around two runs and extend his teams lead to eight. The junior notched three runs and RBI's on the afternoon.
Gabriel DeJesus knocked in the final run of the game for OUAZ in the sixth inning on a sac-fly to bring in
Justin Brodt. DeJesus also came around to score three separate times.
Spirit regulars in the lineup
Justin Brodt and
Sergio Alfaro, had productive days at the plate. Brodt singled in the first inning to bring home the first OUAZ run of the game, he would go on to have two runs and RBI's. Alfaro was perfect in the dish today, recording two hits, runs, and walks. He now leads the team in OBP (.455) through five games.
OUAZ baseball will be back in action Tuesday evening, when they will play at home against Embry-Riddle. First pitch will be 5 pm MST on KC Royals field six. Live stream and live stats will be available.
