Surprise, Ariz. - Ottawa baseball put up nine runs in the last two innings of Friday's contest to complete a spectacular comeback over the British Columbia Thunderbirds. The Spirit move to 2-2 on the season, while UBC goes to 1-1.
Trey Trimble was tabbed Spirit's game two starter, he struck out five and allowed one earned run but walked five Thunderbird batters in three innings of work.
UBC got out to an early lead in the 2nd with a homerun to left-center field. OUAZ responded back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to
Sergio Alfaro, who slapped an RBI double into right-center to bring home
Justin Brodt.
Spirit Standouts
Takaaki Tsuji was the hero in tonight's ballgame. The senior, out of Tokyo, Japan, smacked a ball up the middle bringing in two runs to come roaring back from a once 8-run deficit.
Nick Lustig, a late entry to the game for replacing
Kevin Brekke, was the Spirit star in the lineup tonight. Recording two hits, three RBI's, and came around to score the winning run. He knocked in two runs on a double in the four-run eighth inning for OUAZ. Lustig recorded his second hit in the ninth on an infield single to third base, bringing home the seventh run of the night for Ottawa.
Justin Brodt had not one but two bases-loaded walks and would eventually come around to score both times from those plate appearances.
Joey Winters notched two hits and runs of his own on the night. Winters now leads the team in batting average (.417) and hits (5) on the year through four games.
Ottawa will close out their three-game series against British Columbia in their rubber match tomorrow, with first pitch being at 1 pm MST. There will be coverage with live stream and live stats.
