SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ Spirit (4-2) battled all night but fell short on Friday night to No. 6 Menlo (9-0) 20-25, 32-30, 24-26, 23-25 in the start of GSAC action.
The OUAZ offense stayed neck and neck with the Oaks, with a differential of 69-63 kills and 62-58 assists both just slightly in favor of Menlo. Both Emery Outin and Blake Music could not be stopped, scoring into the double digits (Outin - 25; Music - 13) with Outin picking up more points than any other Spirit member (28). Tyler Gardenhire came out on top of hitting percentage making nine kills off of 14 attempts giving him a .643 percentage on the night.
Despite matching their season high in serving errors (20) the Spirit collected six aces, including a pair of back-to-back serving points from Chase Marcy.
Defensively, the Spirit kept Menlo on their toes with a season high of 22 overall blocks and a season high of 42 digs compared to their opponents 7 blocks and 46 digs.
Next up the Spirit will head on the road to take on Arizona Christian on Wednesday Feb. 22 at 6:00 p.m. in Glendale, Ariz.
