Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gary with the three to win it

The OUAZ women's basketball team continued their hot start to the 2023-24 season with a thrilling 73-70 win over Benedictine University Mesa on Tuesday night. Spirit guard Tatiana Gary hit a three-pointer from in front of the Spirit bench as the buzzer sounded. It was the only three-pointer of the contest for OUAZ.

OUAZ was led by guard Angel Addleman who scored 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished six assists. Forward Brianna Humphries put in 16 points of her own and completed her first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Tiana Sledge added 14 points and Cierra Kiser registered 10. Gary only scored five points in the game, but the most important three were as time ran out.

The Spirit (7-0) led for most of the game, until BenU (0-3) took a lead with just under six minutes to go in the game. The Redhawks built their lead up to six 68-62 with 2:08 to go in the game. Sledge scored a layup to cut the lead to four with 100 seconds left. A steal by Addleman and a layup by Humphries cut the deficit to two 68-66 with 83 seconds on the clock. BenU hit a quick layup before Addleman again cut it to two with a layup with a minute to go. Humphries scored another layup on an assist from Addleman with 37 seconds to tie the game 70-all. After a BenU turnover with 10 seconds to go, Addleman got the inbound pass and passed it over to Gary for the winning bucket.

The team will be on the road for the next five games before returning in January to face The Master's University on the 11th at 5:30 p.m.  Get your tickets now for the game on the Hometown Ticket App or by clicking here.
