In a closely contested match, the OUAZ Spirit Volleyball team managed to secure their place in the GSAC (Golden State Athletic Conference) Tournament with a 3-2 victory over the Hope International University Royals. The set scores were 25-17, 14-25, 27-29, 25-19, and 15-11. The win also secured Head Coach
Kristin Steele her 100th victory at OUAZ.
The Spirit (16-12, 7-8 GSAC) began the match strongly, taking the first set with a score of 25-17. Leading the offense,
Rylie Henige posted 17 kills, while
Gloria Moye and
Brittnie Henige contributed 10 kills each.
Cristal Carrizoza played a key role with 60 assists.
The Royals (9-17, 4-11 GSAC) responded with a dominant performance in the second set, winning 25-14. The match became even more intense during the third set, with Hope International securing a narrow 29-27 win, taking a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth set, the OUAZ Spirit regrouped and won 25-19, forcing a decisive fifth set. The Spirit demonstrated composure and determination to claim the final set with a score of 15-11.
Kenzie Kuxhaus made a significant impact with 29 digs, she now has 1,003 digs for her career.
The first round of the GSAC tournament will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2 at Life Pacific University against the host Warriors. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
