The OUAZ Spirit women's volleyball team brought their best game against the Arizona Christian University Firestorm, securing a convincing 3-1 victory on Friday, October 20th.
OUAZ (14-11, 5-7 GSAC) won with set scores of 22-25, 25-20, 25-10, 25-19 over the Firestorm (7-18, 0-12 GSAC).Â
Gloria Moye led the charge, amassing an impressive 13 kills out of the middle blocker positon, while
Madison Wampler added to the offensive firepower with 11 kills.Â
The architect of the Spirit's offense,
Cristal Carrizoza, distributed the ball well with 41 assists. Â
Kenzie Kuxhaus anchored the defense  with a match high 21 digs, while
Chenay Gladstone contributed 12, and Reegan  Shoquist added 11. In addition to her setting, Carrizoza completed her double-double with ten digs.Â
The match began with a fiercely contested first set, with neither team managing to establish a significant lead. Ultimately, the Firestorm claimed the first set with a score of 25-22.Â
OUAZ came firing back in the second set with a late-set surge, securing a seven-point lead and maintaining their composure to secure a 25-20 victory. The Spirit came out strong in the third set, initiating an impressive 7-1 run to establish an early lead.
They continued their dominance with another 7-1 run in the middle of the set, eventually closing it out with a commanding 25-10 victory carrying that momentum into the fourth and what would prove to be the final set. OUAZ maintained their intensity with multiple three-point runs in the set, ultimately securing a 25-19 victory to clinch the match.Â
The team will be back at Faith Arena on Friday, Oct. 27th, when they host 12th-ranked Vanguard University at 6:00 p.m. They will turn right around next Saturday, at 2:00 p.m., with Senior Day against Hope International University. Tickets can be purchased through the Hometown Ticket App or by
